Mrs. Jaya C.Shekhar

Dear Friends,

It has indeed been an honour and a joyous experience to be part of such a wonderful organization - an organization of strength, beauty and enterprise. We have talented members who always step in, take the initiative, lend warm support and motivate us to dream and dream big, to make these dreams come true.

It's with the realization that this sad old earth needs Time, Love and Compassion, that we in I.A.S.O.W.A try, in however small a measure, to wipe away tears and spread smile. All it takes is a little concern and care.

Today we are looking upwards and drawing strength from each good deed - the future holds the promise of hope and opportunity to serve. The task ahead may prove to be the most stirring adventure for I.A.S.O.W.A and armed with our spirit of friendship and solidarity and the ability to organize, we will certainly scale greater heights in the years to come.

'Prerna' is the child of our endeavor to bridge the gap between the 'haves' and the 'have-not's', to extend the benefits of education, to equip young adults with vocational skills, to provide employment wherever possible, to answer to the needs of the less privileged but equally talented youth of today.

Side by side we work for the elderly, our senior citizens who are so valuable to us, who inspire and guide us. Our differently abled, specially gifted children of 'Aanchal' continue to receive our help - we intend expanding our sphere of activity there.

Celebration. enjoyment, entertainment and I.A.S.O.W.A members excel again - the monthly meetings and the Winter Carnival are examples. 'Inner - Laws' a dramatic breakthrough spearheaded by a team of dedicated, fabulous artists brought acclaim and much needed funds for our social welfare projects. Kudos to them!

We owe a debt of gratitude to all the institutions, organizations and individuals who made generous contributions to help us sustain our charitable work.

Thank you so much. We look forward to your continued support. A very big Thank You to all the members, ever ready to pitch in, whenever, wherever needed - You make everything Possible.

Our journey has only begun ------ we have a long, long way to go.

I am very happy to learn that the IAS Officers’ Wives' Association is starting its web site. This would greatly help in disseminating information about the Association’s programs and contacting the members quickly and efficiently.

Over the years IASOWA has increased in size considerably. Its activities have also diversified. It is a wonderful forum for officers’ wives' to interact with members from different states. It gives the members an opportunity to get to know each other better and also showcase their talents. Its meetings are always interesting and the atmosphere cheerful and friendly.

For some time now IASOWA has given serious attention to social service. This is a very good development. During the time I was associated with the Association, it provided necessary equipment and machines to Rachael, a school for mentally challenged children, to impart vocational training to the children. A dedicated group of members taught the children to make beautiful candles, cards, dusters etc. This association is still continuing. The Association also started remedial classes for the children around Khan Market area. The classes made a tremendous difference to the academic performance of the children and their confidence level. It was really a very rewarding experience to interact with the children and support them in realizing their potential.

The Association streamlined the process of elections of its office bearers. The last two elections that I saw from close quarters were held in extremely friendly manner. It is good that despite many other commitments members come forward to take responsibilities of the association and carry these out with dedication.

I extend my sincere good wishes to the Association. I am sure the Association will continue to grow and its activities will expand to new areas.

Mrs. Lalitha Subramania

I am delighted that the I.C.S/I.A.S Officers' Wives' Association has decided to establish a web site. I am sure it will be received with great interest.

Every period since independence has been special and eventful ; my term as President of Association (1996-1998) was no exception. Much activity took place during that period.

To mention just a few, we had lead role in establishment of the Civil Services Institute.
Besides, the Sankriti School, which has earned an important reputation , was in its infancy at that time. Apart from land, everything else in the institution was conceived and built during that period. Within two years , the School could commence operation in 1998. At a time when the school was woefully short of finance, I asked my husband to help; he arranged to bring in a few crore rupees which tilted the balance-- of course it helped that he happened to be the Cabinet Secretary at that time.

Among many other memories, which come flooding back, I need to mention that the official residence of the Cabinet Secretary was established at Prithviraj Road during that time. In a sense we were able to convert the residence into a 'Flagship house' of the service.

I take the opportunity to send my greetings and best wishes to all members of the Association.

Mrs. Hemi Surendra Singh

My compliments to the President and the Executive Committee of I.A.S.O.W.A. for the commendable initiatives taken by them to make the Association stronger and for their sincere commitment to social causes. I would like to congratulate them for all their achievements.

My thoughts go back to the time when I was the President of the Association (1994-1996). I was fortunate in having an inspired and energetic committee to work with. The most important task before us that time was setting up a quality school for the children of civil service officers. For this purpose and for setting up the Civil Services Officers' Institute we formed the Civil Services Society, comprising mostly members of IASOWA. We chose an excellent site for the school, raised a substantial corpus of funds, got a project report prepared by a firm of internationally reputed consultants and finalized leading architectural and landscaping designs for the school. We chose for the school its name Sanskriti and its motto. Gowri Ishwaran, who later ran the school with great distinction was a member of the team which worked for the establishment of the school right from the beginning. My husband, who was then Cabinet Secretary, laid the foundation stone of the school. It is a matter of great pride to us that Sanskriti is considered one of the finest schools in the country. Subsequent chairpersons and members of the Civil Services Society have taken the school to greater heights.

My happiest memories are of a time fruitfully and joyously spent with the members of IASOWA. Fortunately we had 32 Prithiviraj Road, a place with beautiful gardens, in which to organize many of our events.

IASOWA is a wonderful organization. It has ambitious plans of the future and I am confident that under Jaya's inspired guidance and dynamism of the Executive Committee the association will be successfull in all their ventures. I extend my best wishes to all the members of Association.
